Five points to consider

Indiana currently has 5.1 million acres of forestland, 85% of which are privately owned. The remaining 15% are under public ownership and include county, city, and state-owned land as well as urban forests.

Mitch Daniels has increased logging 500% in Indiana's state forests; in the Ferdinand State Forest alone, this requires that nearly one million board feet is being harvested in 2010-2011.

• The 'Daniels Plan' has the State of Indiana competing with private timber providers.

• The new 'Daniels Plan' calls for five percent of the forest to be cut annually for a 20-year cycle, which means that few if any trees in the forest will be older than 100 years.
